POLK COUNTY, FL — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has announced a Firearms Safety Course/Concealed Weapons Class scheduled for Saturday, December 2nd, from 8:00 am to Noon. Interested individuals are encouraged to reserve their spot promptly by calling 863-298-6242.
Should the demand exceed capacity, a second class is planned for the same day, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The cost of the class is set at $45, a non-refundable fee that will benefit Polk Sheriff’s Charities, Inc.
This course is designed to fulfill the Florida Department of Agriculture’s requirements for obtaining a concealed weapons permit. While Florida’s permitless-carry law became effective on July 1st, a permit still offers significant advantages, such as reciprocity in states requiring a permit for concealed carry and exemption from the 3-day waiting period for new firearm purchases.
For queries regarding classroom instruction, participants can contact Sergeant Bennett or Sergeant Caratsole at the PCSO Training Section at 863-534-7200 during office hours. Although handguns will be available for the hands-on portion of the course, attendees are preferred to bring their own if possible.
The class, emphasizing the importance of firearms safety and responsible handling, highlights the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to community education and safety.
